On 21 December 2025, Atira Ruthenia marked ten years since the club was founded. Instead of a simple celebration, we gathered partners and colleagues for a conference: "The Role of Historical Reconstruction in Museums, Educational Programmes, Tourism and Rehabilitation".
Reconstruction as a tool, not a costume
The conference looked at historical reconstruction as a practical way to preserve, understand and share historical and cultural heritage. The discussion covered four directions:
- museums and exhibitions, where reconstructed objects and living history help visitors read the collections;
- modern educational programmes for schools and universities;
- heritage tourism and the role of festivals in local communities;
- support for veterans and rehabilitation through culture, practical activity and community.
These are the same directions in which the club has worked over its ten years, from university lectures and museum festivals to community events and work with veterans.
The view from a partner community
Among the guests was the Culture Department of the Bilohorodka Council, with which we have worked on the "Bilohorodskyi Kysil" festival. The head of the department spoke about the festival as a way of sharing the history and cultural heritage of the Bilohorodka community: the story behind it, how it is prepared, and the activities and locations it brings together. The department later thanked the organisers for the invitation and the discussion: their post on Instagram.
Thank you
Thank you to everyone who has trained, sewn, researched, travelled and stood in camp with us over these ten years, and to the partners who invite us back. The next chapter includes a new branch in Ireland.
