Medieval Clothing Presentation Held at Barryscourt Castle

16 September 2026

Anna Kichapina from Atira Ruthenia took part in a presentation on medieval clothing and costumes of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Ruthenia and Samogitia, as part of a guided excursion at Barryscourt Castle, County Cork, Ireland.

The event gave visitors an opportunity to explore the history of clothing in the medieval Grand Duchy of Lithuania and learn more about the garments worn by people of different social backgrounds.

The presentation covered various aspects of medieval clothing, including styles and types of garments, fabrics, colours, accessories, and elements that could indicate a person's social status. Historical sources were presented alongside costume reconstructions, helping visitors better understand what medieval clothing may have looked like and how it was worn.

Historical costume reconstruction is an important way of combining research into the past with its practical and visual representation. Through reconstructed garments and historical sources, participants gained a better understanding of everyday life, cultural traditions and material culture in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Ruthenia and Samogitia.

We would like to thank everyone who attended the event, as well as Barryscourt Castle for its hospitality and for providing such a wonderful setting for the presentation.

We will continue to introduce audiences to the history and cultural heritage of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Ruthenia and Samogitia through educational events, historical research and reconstruction.
